Dismal: First Appearance

I mused a while back on my LJ that I wanted a really big cat. This is how Dismal came to be.

In the beginning Dismal was a church grim, buried at the corner stone as the protector for the house of God. But the people lost faith and weeds grew up between the pews, and Dismal figured if man and myth could abandon the grounds, then so would he.

She was taking a short cut through the woods between her house and the school the first time Dismal appeared. She was an artist and saw things differently enough to see Dismal. She tried to ignore him, but he was very good at forcing the issue.

Dismal stalked along her twice daily path, and she told him stories about the people she saw and talked to.

She was Dismal's first human companion and how he learned about the world beyond the wood and the quiet church.
